After splitting four sets of competitive volleyball between the top two teams in the KingCo conference, the Mercer Island volleyball team fell to Mount Si in their fifth set Saturday, losing 3-2 in the final round of the 3A KingCo Volleyball tournament. The loss gives the Islanders the #2 seed from the KingCo conference, while the Wildcats take the top seed.
It was a tough loss for the Islanders, who finished the regular season undefeated in KingCo conference play. After dropping the first set 25-21, the Islanders roared back, winning the next two sets 25-20 and 25-23. But Mount Si wouldn’t go away, taking the next set 25-21 before closing out the final set 15-12.
The Islanders will now look forward to the District 2 3A volleyball tournament, which will take place Saturday at Chief Sealth High School. With the #2 seed, the Islanders will face the winner of Chief Sealth – Holy Names Academy match.
