Katie Lemon
MIHS graduate Katie Lemon, Class of 2004, graduated Cum Laude from Seattle Pacific University last week with a degree in Educational Ministries and a minor in Youth Ministry and Christian Scriptures.
Lauren Steinitz
MIHS graduate Lauren Alissa Steinitz, class of 2004, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lafayette College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology/economics and business. A double major, she held honors in economics and business and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, Omicron Delta Epsilon, and Psi Chi honors societies.
Brian Tolkin
MIHS 2008 graduate Brian Tolkin has received a $40,000 Entrepreneurial Scholarship from the McKelvey Foundation for founding Beams and Dreams, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with cancer. Tolkin will be attending Stanford University in the fall. He plans to eventually pursue a master’s degree in business administration. After gaining experience in the corporate world, Brian hopes to one day own his own business. Tolkin was valedictorian of his class, among other distinctions.
Spencer Doren
Berklee College of Music has awarded Island bassist Spencer Doren, a student at Mercer Island High School, a full scholarship to its five-week Summer Performance Program. Worth more than $7,000, the scholarship will allow Doren to study over the summer at Berklee where he will be taught by some of the nation’s top music professors. Doren was awarded this honor for his talent as a bassist and role in the local band Experience, part of Seattle’s Experience Music Project and Berklee’s City Music program, which provides “free music instruction, mentoring and scholarship opportunities to under-served youth.” Doren will leave for Berklee on July 12.
Ari Livne
Islander Ari Livne, who graduated from Lakeside High School this month, has been distinguished as a 2008 Presidential Scholar. The honor is granted to 139 students nationwide who demonstrate “outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship and service to their schools and communities.” The scholars will be recognized in Washington D.C., from June 21-24. MIHS graduates Evan Zahniser and Ryan Ellis were nominated as Presidential Scholar “candidates.”
