Hobbs will discuss the state of newspapers at Dec. 3 Rotary meeting

Andy Hobbs will discuss his journalism career as well as the state of newspapers in Mercer Island and King County and beyond at the Rotary Club of Mercer Island’s meeting on Dec. 3 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St. The main meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.; socializing is from noon to 12:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome and there is no fee to attend. A catered lunch from Pogacha is available for $25, or attendees can bring their own meal.

Hobbs is editorial director for Sound Publishing’s King County weekly newspapers, which includes the Mercer Island Reporter. Based in Federal Way, he oversees all news operations and manages a team of journalists who produces content for more than a dozen newspapers and websites across Washington’s largest county. Printed publications in this group also include the Federal Way Mirror, Renton Reporter, Auburn Reporter, Kent Reporter, Snoqualmie Valley Record, Enumclaw Courier-Herald and the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber.

Hobbs has more than two decades of newspaper experience and has worked as a reporter, columnist, copy editor and publisher during his career. He has two teenage sons named William and Dylan, and a golden retriever named Hank.
