Two homes in the same neighborhood were burglarized and ransacked on Monday, Jan. 31. The first house, located in the 3600 block of 73rd Avenue S.E., was entered sometime in the morning while the residents were absent between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A large, black-handled butcher knife was stolen, along with a golf club.
The burglar broke into the second house, located in the 7300 block of S.E. 38th Street, through a window after breaking the window sill and left a shoe print in mud at the scene. The victim, a 62-year-old man, did not report any missing items. Photographs were taken for evidence.
Jan. 26
Car prowl: A window was smashed out of a Lexus parked in the 9000 block of S.E. 61st Street between 11:55 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. When the victim, a 30-year-old Mercer Island woman, returned she found that a diaper bag containing a Coach wallet had been stolen out of the front passenger seat. She did not see anyone in the vicinity.
Jan. 27
Forgery: An Edmonds girl, 18, attempted to forge a check in the Mercer Island Country Club’s name at 10:45 a.m. The Northgate US Bank notified the country club’s office manager that the forged check had been deposited into the suspect’s account.
Arrest: Police arrested a Mercer Island woman, 24, at 3:39 p.m. in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue S.E. who had been arrested the previous week for a warrant. The suspect was still driving with a suspended license and four counts of Failure To Appear on record. Her vehicle was left at the scene while she was processed and released at the MIPD.
Bicycle found: A police officer was flagged down by a Mercer Island woman whose neighbor found a bicycle in her front yard at 7 a.m. in the 3400 block of 77th Avenue S.E. The neighbor did not know the owner of the bicycle and left it on its kickstand by the curb, but it was not claimed by the evening.
Jan. 28
Liquor violation: School staff confiscated alcohol from two teen girls, 13 and 14, at Islander Middle School at 12:50 p.m. One other person, a 14-year-old boy, was involved. The students’ parents were contacted.
Theft: A set of golf clubs worth $2,000 was stolen with shoes and a bag between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The victim, a 29-year-old Mercer Island man, had left the golf clubs in the hallway outside of his apartment in the 9000 block of West Shorewood Drive.
Arrest: Police picked up a male suspect, 19, with an outstanding MIPD warrant at the Renton Jail and booked him into the Issaquah Jail in the afternoon.
Arrest: A Mercer Island woman, 38, reported a vehicle on her property with two occupants who she suspected were using drugs at 6:20 p.m. in the 3800 block of East Mercer Way. Police arrested the suspects, two 19-year-old boys, who smelled of intoxicants and had been drinking. A half empty bottle of vodka was underneath the driver’s seat.
Car prowl: The rear trunk of a 57-year-old Mercer Island woman’s Ford Taurus was prowled sometime after Jan. 26 in the 2900 block of 76th Avenue S.E. No items were stolen, and forced entry was not apparent. The incident was reported at 7:11 p.m.
Jan. 29
Arrest: Police arrested a Seattle man, 31, on a MIPD misdemeanor warrant and booked him into the Issaquah Jail after being notified by the King County Jail that he was going to be released.
Malicious mischief: A Honda Civic’s passenger side panel was kicked in, which left a large dent, between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. outside the Mercer Island Veterinary Clinic in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E.
Arrest: Police stopped a Ford Explorer without a front license plate at 8:36 p.m. in the 2300 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. The officer saw a glass marijuana pipe on the passenger floorboard and ordered the driver, a 17-year-old Mercer Island boy, out of the vehicle. The suspect admitted he had marijuana, a grinder and the pipe. After his arrest, the driver was processed and released to his mother.
Car prowl: The window of a Mazda Protega was smashed in the 8200 block of S.E. 59th Street between 6:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. A backpack with valuable items was stolen, including a laptop, checkbook and credit card.
Vehicle theft: A Lexus was stolen out of a parking garage in the 7700 block of Sunset Highway between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The vehicle, described as having a small dent in the front right panel, was unlocked with a key fob inside. The victim, a 40-year-old man, had not given anyone permission to take the car.
Jan. 30
Car prowl: A backpack was stolen out of a Toyota Sienna van sometime overnight in the 2200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. A driver side window was broken while the van was parked on the street outside the victim’s residence. The backpack contained school supplies, books and a graphing calculator.
Jan. 31
Arrest: Police arrested a warrant suspect, a 21-year-old Mercer Island man, at 1:14 a.m. after observing him in the Farmers Insurance underground parking garage in the 2900 block of 77th Avenue S.E. A Tasercam recording was kept for evidence, and the suspect was booked into the King County Jail.
Knife found: Police found a fixed blade knife at 1:25 a.m. in the Farmers Insurance parking garage in the 2900 block of 77th Avenue S.E. The knife was in a planter, and it was found with a “Club America” soccer team bandana.
