The temporary I-5 bridge replacement across the Skagit River opened to traffic on Wednesday morning, June 19. A reduced speed limit of 40 mph is in effect between SR-20 and College Way.

Oversized, overweight freight traffic must divert around the bridge onto detour routes.

A permanent bridge span will cost $6.87 million and will be built by Max J. Kuney Construction of Spokane. Installation is expected to take place between Labor Day weekend and Oct. 1, and that portion of I-5 will be closed during that time.

The bridge collapsed on May 23.
