Three people were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries following a two-car, high-speed collision early Monday morning on westbound Interstate 90 at East Mercer Way, according to the Mercer Island Fire Department (MIFD) Facebook page.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) said that three members of one vehicle — two males and a female — fled on foot, and troopers located all of them and took them into custody.
The accident — which occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. — initially blocked three lanes on I-90 and the westbound I-90 onramp at East Mercer Way.
At post time, the onramp is now open while one lane is closed, according to the Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) Facebook page.
WSP is investigating the cause of the accident, and it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, according to state patrol.
