Herzl-Ner Tamid Synagogue and Mercer Island Presbyterian Church are holding an event called “No One Should Be Forced: An Interfaith Dialogue on Modern Slavery” at 7 p.m., April 13, at Herzl-Ner Tamid at 3700 East Mercer Way.

The two faith communities are part of a growing movement of Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists and non-denominational groups that are working together locally and globally to address the issue of modern slavery.

Seattle Against Slavery, a local grassroots coalition working to make a slave-free world, will also be included at the event. The evening will feature Urmi Basu, director of New Light (an organization that rescues children from sex trafficking), in a live feed from Kolkata, India; and Sheila Houston, a minister who reaches out to young people who are sexually trafficked in Washington state.
