The construction along Island Crest Way will continue this week, as crews repave the road.
On Wednesday, Aug. 15 the entire northbound side of the road will be paved in the southbound direction. Side streets will be closed as the paving process passes them, but cars will be detoured north and south along 88th and 90th Avenue for access to the neighborhoods east of Island Crest Way.
Traffic will be able to run on the newly paved southbound side and flaggers will be at intersections as needed. Metro buses going on 86th Ave. will be rerouted Wednesday.
Drivers should expect delays and consider using either East or West Mercer Way to get to and from the southern portion of the Island. There are two paving crews working this week to condense the amount of time it takes to get the road repaved.
On Thursday, Aug. 16 crews will pave the side street connections including: Merrimount, 86th Ave. S.E. 46th, S.E. 47th, S.E. 48th and S.E. 53rd. Merrimount traffic will be detoured for several hours while it is repaved. Metro buses using Island Crest Way and 86th Ave. will reroute temporarily on Thursday.
Delays driving on Island Crest Way on Thursday are not expected to be as long as on Wednesday.
Also on Thursday, a set of portable classrooms will be delivered to Islander Middle School, which means traffic will stopped for a short period around 1 p.m. to allow the tractor-trailers to move down ICW.
Striping of the newly paved road is set for the week of Aug. 27.
