Islanders compete at USA swimming Olympic Trials

Two Mercer Island residents headed east last week to take part in the 2012 U.S. Swimming Olympics Trials in Omaha, Neb.

Mercer Island native Ethan Hallowell swam in the 50 freestyle event at the Trials. He finished 145th overall with a 23.87 time in his heat. His time was 2.04 second off the top qualifying time of 21.83 by Anthony Ervin.

Puget Sound native Nathan Adrian finished the race third overall in 21.68.

Mercer Island High School student Hannah Weiss competed in three events.

She finished 133rd overall in the women’s 100 meter butterfly in 1:02.95, 6.36 seconds behind the leader.

In the 100 backstroke race, Weiss’s top race, she finished 53rd in 1:03.43 just 3.89 behind the leader. In the 200 backstroke Weiss was 181 overall with a 2:23.40 time.
