Mercer Island boys basketball edged Lake Washington 51-49 Tuesday night at Mercer Island High School. The Islanders improved to 15-5 overall and 10-1 in KingCo, with one game to go in their regular season.
The Islanders trailed the Kangs by three at the half and by one going into the final quarter, but managed to overcome Lake Washington in the fourth for the two-point win. Josh Stenberg led Mercer Island in scoring with 14 points while Sam Nordale had 13.
The Islanders will gun for a share of the KingCo 3A/2A league crown when they take on Bellevue in their regular season finale at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 at Bellevue High School. The Wolverines (17-2, 11-0) beat Mercer Island 62-46 in their Jan. 13 matchup at MIHS.
