Islanders help EC to playoffs

Mercer Island residents Christian Johnson, Sam Lindquist, Grant Sutherland, Ross Barlow, Zach McKiernan, Connor Holden and Connor McCormick all play football for Eastside Catholic. The team finished the regular season with a record of 9-1 and was ranked fifth overall entering the state playoffs.

The Crusaders lost Friday to Lakes High School, 18-14, during the second round of the state playoffs.

The Crusaders fell behind during the first half, 12-7, but took the lead during the third quarter, 14-12. A fourth quarter score by the Lakes finished off Eastside Catholic’s state run.

The team earned its first playoff victory on Nov. 14, defeating Mount Si, 13-12.

Johnson threw for one touchdown pass during the contest.
