The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Nov. 9
FRAUD: A victim in the 5000 block of E. Mercer Way said at 4:59 p.m. that a fraudulent joint credit card account was opened in their name and another person’s name.
Nov. 16
PROWLING: Smith sunglasses and $10 in cash were reported stolen in the 2800 block of 75th Place SE at 8:30 a.m. after a car prowl. The vehicle was unlocked.
ANOTHER PROWL: An unlocked vehicle was prowled in a driveway in the 7900 block of Lakeview Lane overnight. Credit cards and about $250 in cash were stolen, and charges were later made on the cards, according to the victim’s bank.
Nov. 17
TRAFFIC OFFENSES: Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at 11:51 p.m. in the 6000 block of westbound I-90. The driver provided a false name and was placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant. The suspect later provided the correct information, and was processed, cited and released from MIPD.
Nov. 18
WARRANT ARREST: Issaquah Jail called MIPD at 10:59 a.m. to confirm and book a subject on an outstanding warrant that they had in their custody. The warrant was confirmed and the request to book the subject was granted.
MORE PROWLING: $110 in U.S. postage stamps were stolen after a car prowl reported at 11:08 a.m. at the North QFC.
ANOTHER PROWL: A victim said at 12:16 p.m. that his vehicle was prowled in his condo parking lot in the 2900 block of 76th Ave. SE. $900 in power tools were stolen.
FRAUD: At 12:22 p.m., a woman reported that her parents were swindled out of $9,800 in an elaborate scheme with a subject who had identified himself as a King County Sheriff’s banking division investigator. The victims made physical contact with the suspect and handed him the money.
MORE PROWLING: A victim’s window was unlawfully entered by force and items were reported stolen at 12:52 p.m. in the 2000 block of 84th Ave. SE. The rear passenger side window was shattered. Seven fraudulent transactions were made within an hour of the prowl using the victim’s stolen credit and debit cards, for a loss of $2,600.
DEATH INVESTIGATION: Officers investigated a death at 6:44 p.m. in the 2900 block of 76th Ave. SE.
