Islanders support local food security programs at recycling event

At the city of Mercer Island recycling event on March 29, Mercer Island Youth and Family Services (MIYFS) Foundation board members and volunteers collected more than $6,000 in monetary and gift card donations to support MIYFS food security programs. People coming to recycle and donate were able to spot volunteers in blue aprons and a flag with the foundation logo. “It’s amazing how many residents remember to come prepared to support Islanders in need at this twice a year event with checks, cash and gift cards in hand to pass along to volunteers before they head over to the recycling facilities,” the foundation said.
