Last note for Mostly Music

Final show of the Arts Council's summer concert series is at 7 p.m. tonight at Mercerdale.

The Arts Council’s Mostly Music in the Park series brought families, friends and neighbors together during the summer music season.

Bands included indie folk group West My Friend, Paul McCartney cover band Wings N Things, Cuban salsa roots group SuperSones, string band The Warren G. Hardings and a special performance by the Russian Chamber Music Foundation of Seattle. The last show is Thursday, Aug. 20, featuring The Fabulous Roof Shakers, a rhythm and blues group.

Hundreds of Islanders gathered each week at Mercerdale Park on Thursdays this summer for the free shows.

It’s “a wholesome event that appeals to all ages, from young children to grandparents,” said the city’s Amber Britton.

The selection committee, consisting of a few Arts Council members and community members, screens all the entries and vote on the bands. They look for a mix of wide audience appeal and unique genres like Cajun Zydeco, Big Band, French Cabaret, or Cuban salsa, Britton said.
