Too often when we see problems, we are quick to complain, but not willing to actively participate in finding a solution. The Lindell lawsuit, Island Crest Way safety problems and a derogatory outburst by a Councilmember in front of children are just a few of the embarrassing issues that have recently blemished our City Council. It takes a lot of courage to run for a political office, and I commend Debbie Bertlin for recognizing the need for change and running for City Council Position 7.

Debbie brings a fresh perspective to our city, and I respect that she is striving to “re-build our community’s confidence in integrity and transparency of our municipal government.” Her impressive career in management and her ability to work with diverse groups is what our city needs in order to bring cohesiveness back to our local government. Debbie seems able and willing to put politics aside and do what is in the best interest of our community.

I commend Debbie’s pledge for a fiscal responsible approach to our city’s budget while recognizing the importance of maintaining the quality schools, social services and infrastructure Mercer Island offers.

Let’s actively participate in the need for change and vote for Debbie Bertlin this November!
