Letter | Guild phone books are community effort

Thank you to everyone who helped on mailing day, March 15, 2013, when the Mercer Island Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital delivered over 6,500 directories to Mercer Island residents and businesses.

Thank you to everyone who helped on mailing day, March 15, 2013, when the Mercer Island Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital delivered over 6,500 directories to Mercer Island residents and businesses.

The MI Directory is not like other phone books. It is a fundraising project for Seattle Children’s Hospital. Thanks to the donations of Mercer Islanders and advertisers, everything over the cost of the Directory (now more than $5 per Directory) goes to Seattle Children’s Hospital Uncompensated Care Fund. The Guild Association has confirmed that 100 percent of your donation is tax deductible.

Our 30 active members volunteer year-round keeping the Directory as accurate as possible. We mail the Directory to every Island resident we know about and include a “blue envelope” reminding recipients to write a check to the Mercer Island Guild.

There are more than 500 Guilds supporting the hospital. This year the MI Guild is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Over those years, we have donated more than $3,000,000 to the hospital so that no child is turned away for lack of insurance. We are grateful for your continued support.

Business owners not currently sponsoring ads and residents who wish to be included in the 2014 Directory may contact us at miphonebook@gmail.com. The Mercer Island Guild is a multi-generational group and welcomes new members.

Thank you for your continued support of Seattle Children’s Hospital through donations and ads in the Mercer Island Directory.
