My wife and I and our children live off 83rd Avenue S.E. and 40th. I had two Mitt Romney signs on the corner of our lot. One was facing 83rd and the other faced 40th. Someone stole both signs last night. This is probably just another example of liberal intolerance. Years ago, my logic professor and I were discussing logic and people, and he told me that the students who had the biggest problem with understanding basic and syllogistic logic were students with liberal views. The idea of freedom and responsibility is foreign to them, just as is cause and effect.

James Madison identified the dangers of self-interested persons who would attempt to equalize property ownership, which he called an “improper and wicked project.” From the Founders’ perspective, by the sweat of our brow we earn our bread, and it is a sin to covet thy neighbor’s possessions (the Tenth Commandment). I think that includes not only his cow, or wife, or house or land, but also his earnings. Mitt Romney and Christians in general adhere to a basic tenant to love our neighbor and help the poor and the needy. That is why Mitt and other Christians tithe and give to charity. It is a personal responsibility to do so. For the Mormons, they have no paid ministry whatsoever, so their tithes and offerings go to helping the poor and the needy and to build churches, temples, welfare farms, bishops’ storehouses, and to fill those storehouses with food for the needy. They even fast one Sunday a month and give the money saved from not eating to maintain a local fund to help those in need of financial help. Loving our neighbors as ourselves are not hollow words to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, members of which are called Mormons.

I find it is sad that Democrats are talking about boycotting their own convention because North Carolina is a right-to-work state, and the North Carolina citizens have voted to maintain marriage for a man and a woman. We conservatives hold no objection to civil unions for those who seek such a contract with their partners, but marriage is for a man and a woman. These are sad and strange times we live in.

As for the occupy Wall Street folks, the man or woman who makes a good living pays large portions of their wages in taxes, which fund our government and all of the services it provides. It is one thing to protest dishonesty; it is another to not recognize the blessings that society obtains from those who work hard and smart and pay large amounts of federal, state and local taxes.

What would the liberal down the street think about me stealing his Obama yard signs?
