Letter | Vietnam War memorial wall

David Warner was in our Mercer Island Boy Scout Troup 435 and his dad was our scoutmaster. He had leadership qualities and younger scouts looked up to him. If you were in Dave’s patrol, you were sure to make it through the rainy camping trip without waking up in the middle of the night with a wet sleeping bag. It was no surprise to hear he was leading men into combat. I’m sure that he did it superbly.

Larry Simonson was in my graduating class at Mercer Island High School. He was not the most outgoing guy, but he had the amazing distinction of being one of the few people who was liked by everyone in the class. We all felt a dagger of sorrow when we heard of his death. And even more so when some of his letters from Vietnam were published in the Mercer Island Reporter.
