The third annual competitive “MI Letterboxing Adventure” will take place during the months of June, July and August 2012.

The program will be kicked-off on June 2, in conjunction with National Trails Day. Participants may meet in Pioneer Park, across from the entrance to QFC and Starbucks, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At registration, kids will create their personal letterbox stamp and learn how the program works from letterboxing ‘guides.’

If you are not able to come to Trails Day, clue books will be available after this date at the South end Starbucks, the MI Community and Event Center, the MI Parks and Recreation Department at the Luther Burbank Park Administration building, and the Boys and Girls Club. This program will take place in the 120-acre Pioneer Park. Letterbox “finders” follow the clues in the booklet to find the boxes, record their “find,” and restore the box to its hiding place for future “finders.”

This program is open to all kindergarten to eighth-grade children and not restricted to Mercer Island residents.

Clue books turned in by Sept. 1 will be entered into a contest for finding the most sites.

The winners will be announced and celebrated at a City Council meeting in September or October.

The MI Open Space Conservancy Trust, MI Parks & Recreation Department, MI Boys & Girls Club, Starbucks, MI Boy Scouts, and MI Girl Scouts have provided financial and in-kind support for this program.
