The state Senate gave its unanimous support to a measure that increases reporting requirements and oversight of guardianship care for the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

The bill was introduced by Sen. Steve Litzow, Mercer Island, to address concerns brought to him by a constituent.

“It is important we continue to work to protect the elderly and most vulnerable in our state. I appreciate those in my district for bringing this issue to my attention, and I am looking forward to working with them and others on guardianship issues,” Litzow stated.

Court-appointed guardians must report annually to a judge on several aspects of their responsibilities.

The measure now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.
