Local high school drama and DECA students excel in their fields

Eight Mercer Island High School (MIHS) drama department students notched state-honoree status in the Washington State Thespian Thespy Awards.

They have displayed excellence in playwriting (Meredith Weaver and Tiger Yang); musical duet (Jose Igtiben and Marco McGuire); musical solo (McGuire); acting duo scene (Everett Guillemette and Igtiben); monologues (Wilder Giannini-Upton, Ruball Dhillon, Guillemette and Igtiben); and theatre marketing (Eva Peng).

In the MIHS DECA business and marketing realm, 125 students qualified for the state championship from Feb. 27-March 1 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. This is the most MIHS DECA students that have ever qualified for state.
