Make-up days for Mercer Island School District students are set

School will end two days later this year due to cold weather closures. Mercer Island School District students and staff will make up the four days of school canceled by the cold weather using make-up days already in place in the school calendar. Two of the days will be made up in March and May, and two more at the end of the school year in June. The two days missed before the mid-winter break this past weekend had been scheduled to be made up over long weekends later this spring. The two days missed on Feb. 23 and 24 will be made up at the end of the school district calendar in June.

According to schools Superintendent Gary Plano, the built-in school make-up days are set by union contract with the teachers and are already in place in case school is canceled.

The make-up days, which will now be regular school days, are Friday, March 11; Friday, May 27; and Thursday and Friday, June 16 and 17. The last day of school is now June 17. If there are no further interruptions, the school district will finish the full number of days set by the state.
