The Crossroads Bellevue Shopping Center will celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 19.

Musicians, performers and guest speakers will take the main stage at the center from noon to 3 p.m. The free event will include a health fair presented by the Bellevue Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

The national holiday was first observed in 1986 in honor of King’s achievements in the area of civil rights. It is one of only four United States federal holidays to commemorate an individual person.

King is considered by many as a human rights icon, leading the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his memorable “I Have a Dream” speech.

The Celebration of a Dream: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will include appearances by Eduardo Mendonca and Show Brazil, Sonny Byers Band, Seattle Peace Chorus, Bellevue Cheer Elite and guest speakers.

The community event is sponsored by the City of Bellevue Parks & Community Services Cultural Diversity Program, Crossroads Bellevue Shopping Center, and the Bellevue Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
