Boys soccer
The Islanders earned their first league win Tuesday night, defeating Bellevue 3-0 at home. After battling back and forth Mercer Island’s Alex Wood found a way around the Wolverine’s defense in the 19th minute of play off a throw in from Taylor Ward. Mercer Island’s Matt Johnson followed suit just two minutes later for another Islander goal, this time a header off a pass from Wood.
Bellevue kept trying, throughout the rest of the first and most of the second half to get through the lines of Islander defense, but could never find a convincing opening, despite chances. In the 87th minute Nick Ward connected off a pass from Perrin Guyer for the game’s final score. Islander goalie James Suh was credited with the shutout.
Bellevue is 1-1-2 so far this season and was missing key player Race Sciabica during the match against the Islanders. Mercer Island has a 1-1-2 record this season.
Water polo
The Mercer Island girls water polo nabbed a victory over Roosevelt last week, winning 8-2.
The score was tied 2-2 going into the second quarter, before the Islanders pulled away, adding six more points before the end of the game.
Senior Stephanie Hammond scored four goals for the team, while Rachel Frank had two goals. Caroline Condiotty and Briauna Azer each added one.
Boys lacrosse
The boys lacrosse team celebrated a 19-7 win over Northshore on Monday night, pushing the team to a 4-0 record this season. The team will host the Northwest Invitational this weekend, with the Islanders playing Friday, March 26 at 8 p.m. against Sunset, a team from Oregon, and Saturday at noon against Lincoln, another team from Oregon. Both games will take place at Mercer Island Stadium.

Girls lacrosse
The Mercer Island division I girls lacrosse team fell to Lakeside last Thursday night, losing 18-7. Islander goalie Sarah Drucker had three saves in the game, while the team’s second goalie Erica Eagan had seven saves.
On Monday the team traveled to play Roosevelt, winning the game 17-11. They are now 2-1 this season. Captain Talia Homchick, along with Sarah Drucker and Lauren Ito each had four goals for the team.
The Islanders DI team will travel to Tacoma on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game, and following spring break, will host Garfield on April 8 at 8 p.m.

In division II girls lacrosse, the returning state champion team lost to Issaquah last Thursday, 17-7 in a home game. Islander Dulce Moll had three goals, while Islander goalie Audrey Airut-Murphy had five saves.
On Monday the team beat Mukilteo 20-14 to advance to a 1-1 record this season. Ellen Horton, Sarah Cartwright and Moll had three goals each during the win.

Tennis
The Mercer Island girls tennis team started off their season with three solid wins, beating Sammamish, Interlake and Mount Si in the last week. The team will host Liberty on Thursday.

Golf
The Mercer Island girls golf team kept their winning streak alive, beating Juanita during a home match on Monday afternoon at Jefferson Park golf course. The Islanders finished with a 225 stroke score, while Juanita had 314.
Chelsea Saelee was first overall with a course par of 36, while Haley Chinn finished second with a 42. Sarah Peterson was third at 47 strokes and Kristen Numata and Kayce Ogishima tied for fourth place with 50 strokes.
Baseball
The Islanders baseball team lost to Mount Si Monday evening 7-2. The game was tied going into the second inning with two runs for both the Islanders and the Wildcats, but Mount Si pulled, adding another five runs to end the game in the sixth inning.
Mercer Island was able to get on the board first, using a two run single from Mike Potoshnik to get Kirby Ingram and Willy Reel across home plate.
The Islanders will host Mount Si this evening with a 6 p.m. start at Island Crest Park.
