As the buyers told Lisa Vian Hunter Tuesday night, she was not their Fashion Star.
The Mercer Island designer’s run on the NBC show came to an end this week, after being in the bottom three for the second week in a row.
This week’s concept for the designers was to create high and low end looks, showing their ability to design for mass market and above. Vian Hunter created a coat, with the low end version in a bright yellow and the more expensive version in a red and black print.
During Vian Hunter’s meeting with the mentors, she was told it was sort of hard to distinguish between the high and the low end, but that that might be a good thing.
Vian Hunter had hoped prior to the showcase that the coats would be picked up by Saks 5th Avenue as it was a store that held special meaning for her, explaining she shopped there with her mother before she died.
In the end the buyers, which did not bid on either coat, said they didn’t feel anyone would wear the bright yellow, despite mentors Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie both saying they would, and that the coats were not new and fresh enough.
Vian Hunter sold one dress during the competition, with Macy’s purchasing the pleated tank dress two weeks ago.
