In their fourth KingCo game of the season, Mercer Island earned a win over Interlake. The Islanders took the team’s first KingCo victory with an 8-4 final score.
The teams were scoreless after the first inning, but exploded in the second when Interlake scored four in the top of the second, followed by five for the Islanders. As hot as the bats were in the second inning, things quieted down in the third, another scoreless set before the Islanders made the trip twice in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead, followed by another run in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
Mercer Island’s Hunter Goldberg earned the win, pitching six innings, giving up eight hits, four runs, two erros and striking out three. Philip Pugel finished off the game, pitching the final inning, allowing one hit and one strike.
At bat the Islanders had 12 hits. Nick Chandler was 1-4 with one run, Chris Lawler was hit three singles during his four at-bats, scoring two runs. Matt Orehek was 2-4 with two singles, while Max Dammeier was 1-4 with a single and a run, Keegan Ogard had two singles during the game, scoring one run, Brandon Lawler scored one run of his own, hitting two singles during his three trips to bat. Mack Schlamp also scored a run, as did Nick Holstead who hit a single.
The Islanders travel to Liberty on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
