Mercer Island girls finish 10th at state | Cross country state results

The Mercer Island girls cross country team finished 10th in state on Saturday, Nov. 3. The team traveled to Pasco, Wash. for the 3A state meet at Sun Willows Golf Course.

The Mercer Island girls cross country team finished 10th in state on Saturday, Nov. 3. The team traveled to Pasco, Wash. for the 3A state meet at Sun Willows Golf Course.

The Islanders earned 209 points overall. Glacier Peak won the team title with 66 points and Glacier Peak senior Amy-Eloise Neale captured the individual title in 17:03.6 minutes.

The top Mercer Island finisher was freshman Alexa Bauman in 19:36.7 for 25th place. Junior Alida Scalzo was 40th overall with a 19:50.4 time. Linden Elggren was 65th individually with a 20:27 time, Cecelia Rosenman was 74th in 20:33.9 and Sarah Bjarnason was 80th overall in 20:41.2. Rachel Van Gelder was 103rd overall with a time of 21:14.7, while sophomore Adriene Suhm finished the reach in 22:04.4 for 131st place overall.

Mercer Island’s lone male participant, senior Matt Wotipka, finished in 24th place overall with a 16:08.4 time. Joe Hardy, from Seattle Prep, won the 3A competition with a 15:18 final time.
