The Mercer Island track and field teams hosted a meet against KingCo opponents Lake Washington and Juanita on Thursday, April 18.

The Mercer Island girls finished in second place with 61 points, behind first place Lake Washington which earned 74.5 points during the meet. In the boys competition, Mercer Island finished third overall with 31 points. The Juanita boys team took first with 81 points.

In the 100 meter event, Luke Bohlinger was fourth overall in 11.90 seconds, while John Gallagher was sixth in 12.10. In the 200 meter event, Andrew Barnwell was fourth in 24.60 and Travis Gallatin was fifth in 25.5.

In the 400 meter finals, Gallatin took first place in 53.60 seconds, followed by Dylan Lesko in second in 54.10 and Daniel Mayer in fourth place in 55.70.

Matthew Wotipka was third overall in the 800 meter event in 2:04.20, while Nathan Cummings was fourth in 2:05.90.

In the 1,600 meter race, Ian Schneiderman was seventh in 5:12.60, Kyle Weiss was ninth in 5:13.90 and Thomas Brown was 11th overall in 5:25.20. Max Tilden was third overall in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.70 seconds.

In the shot put event, Tyler Walters was third overall with a throw of 39 feet and 2 inches, while Nolan Conway was fourth in 38’03.5. Collin Niccoll was seventh, Preston Melick was eighth, as was freshman Dylan Majewski. Sahir Noorani finished in 10th place, while Kwame Opoku was 19th.

In the discus competition, Majewski finished in second place overall with a 94’01 throw, while Noorani was fifth, throwing for 89’01. Opoku was eighth, Kyle Hsu was ninths and Niccoll was 11th. Delano Kingston threw for 16th place and Brian Wen finished in 20th.

In the javelin, Niccoll finished in fourth place with 110’06, Nicholas Richards finished in sixth place by throwing for 98’10 and Hsu finished in seventh at 96’04. Trevor Himstead finished in eighth place, Majewski finished in 10, Opoku finished in 18th place and Wen finished in 19th.

Trevor Himstead cleared 8 feet in the pole vault competition to finish in second place, while Richards finished in third after also clearing 8 feet. Christopher Rorem finished in fifth at 7’6 and Kyle Baska finished in sxith place after jumping 7 feet.

Riskely Lesko finished in second place in the long jump after jumping 18’10.75, while Barnwell finished in seventh place overall. Gallatin finished in 11th place and Eric Kim finished in 20th place.

Gallagher earned a 10th place finish in the triple jump for a leap of 33’06.75, while Kim finished in 13th place.

In the girls competition, in the 100 meter race, Latrevian Saunders finished in third place in 13.5 seconds, while Adrienne Emick was fourth in 13.60.

Victoria Gersch won the 200 meter race in 26.40 seconds, while in the 400 meter event, Piper Casey took first in 1:03.30. Lauren Emick was third in 1:05 and Alida Scalzo was sixth in 1:09.20.

Sarah Bjarnason took first in the 800 meter race in 2:24.70, while freshman Alexa Bauman was first in the 1,600 meter race in 5:23.10, followed by Linden Elggren in second in 5:36.70 and CeCeRosenman in third in 5:37.20.

Kaya McRuer was fourth overall in the 3,200 meter race in 13:10.60, while Adrienne Suhm was fifth in 13:43.

Lindsay Lightfoot won the 100 meter hurdles event in 17.30 seconds, followed by Shannon Cavanaugh in fourth place and Sydney Zeldes in fifth. Cavanaugh also finished the 300 hurdles event in fourth place in 58.70 seconds.

The Mercer Island girls 4×100 relay team of Lorial Yeadon, Laura Harrison, Gersch and Saunders finished in first place in 55.3 seconds. The team of Kris Brackmann, Yeadon, Lauren and Adrienne Emick took third in the 4×200 relay race in 1:54.

Emily Bassett took first place in the shot put competition with a throw of 34’04, while Carly Ledbetter was sixth with a throw of 27’05.Christina Doctor was ninth, Katherin Hendrikson was 10th, Gabrielle Jones was 13th and Jacqueline Gallup was 16th overall.

Doctor earned a sixth place fininsh in the discus at 69’02, while Bassett was seventh at 68’04 and Jones was eighth at 65’07. Hendrikson finished in 13th place, Ledbetter in 18th and Gina So in 19th place.

In the javelin competition, Casey finished in sixth place at 62’05, Ledbetter finished in seventh at 57’01 and So finished in 9th place. Hendrikson finished 10th overall, while Gallup was 12th.

Brackmann won the high jump competition with a jump of 4’8, while Emily Lightfoot was second overall at 4’8. Christina Travis was sixth with a leap of 4’2.

Cavanaugh finished the pole vault in first place with a leap of 6’6 and Latrevian Saunders was fifth overall in the long jump.

The Islanders will compete at the annual Bellevue Invitational on Saturday, April 20 at Bellevue High School.
