Mercer Island High School band earns All-state solo and ensemble honors

A total of 37 Mercer Island High School students took part in the Washington All-State solo and ensemble contest in late April.

A total of 37 Mercer Island High School students took part in the Washington All-State solo and ensemble contest in late April.

Eight members of the MIHS band won or placed first in their category this season, the highest number ever for Mercer Island.

Isaac Miller earned a first place in oboe, David Stewart was first in clarinet, Mary Wingerson was first in bass clarinet, Dalton He was first in euphonium, Annalise King finished second in the euphonium competition. The MIHS Brass Quintet took first in the large brass ensemble, while the MIHS Euphoria group took first in the small brass ensemble competition. The MIHS Woodwind Quintet earned a second place finished in the large woodwind ensemble competition.

Also participating from Mercer Island included: the MIHS percussion ensemble, Nolan Conway on the tuba, Alex Gore playing the French horn, Shea Kelsay on the trumpet and Dylan Lesko on marimba.
