For the second year in a row, Mercer Island High School has won the 3A WIAA Scholastic Cup. The cup recognizes performance in the classroom, as well as in athletics, and schools earn points based on state competition results and academic performance. MIHS amassed 1,910 points, while second-place Camas High School earned 1,370.

Covenant Shores employee earns scholarship
James Brockmeyer, the director of wellness at Covenant Shores on Mercer Island, was awarded the Paul V. Peterson Scholarship for $2,500. The funds will help him pay to finish his study of gerontology at the University of Washington.
The scholarship is awarded by Covenant Retirement Communities to an employee who is taking classes which support and is beneficial to their employment with the company.
There were 28 applications from across the country for the award, and Brockmeyer is one of two recipients. He has been the director of wellness since August 2005.
