After playing Bellevue twice in 24 hours, the Mercer Island boys basketball team couldn’t pull out a second win on Saturday night. The Islanders, which had beaten Bellevue Friday at home, lost 58-46 to the Wolverines on Saturday at Bellevue College.

With the loss the team will have the No. 3 seed going into Monday’s KingCo tournament, facing Mount Si at home at 7 p.m.

Against Bellevue on Saturday, the Islanders were down 20-6 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams hit 10 points in the second quarter, but it left the Islanders facing a hole going into the second half.

Despite keeping up with Bellevue in the third quarter, points wise, and outscoring their opponent in the fourth 18-13, if wasn’t enough to make up for the first half deficit.

Brian Miller had 15 points during the game, while Joe Rasmussen added 11. Sam Cohn had nine points, with Sean Hughes adding six, Jack Shaddle had three and Jeff Lindquist scored two.

The winner of Monday’s game between Mercer Island and Mount Si will face Bellevue on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. The top four teams from the KingCo tournament will advance to the following week’s SeaKing district competition.
