Chickens attacked
Two dogs reportedly attacked and killed two chickens in the 4800 block of East Mercer Way on May 11. The dogs were placed back into the control of their owner.
Car prowls
A woman living in the 9700 block of S.E. 36th Street reported that her Honda Civic was broken into on May 9. According to the incident report, the woman’s car had been locked. The perpetrator pried the driver’s seat window open and stole the car stereo. Police were able to get fingerprints. Total loss is approximately $100.
An Island man reported that his car was broken into on May 9. According to the report, the man had parked his vehicle in the 8800 block of S.E. 72nd Place late in the evening on May 8. When he returned to his car the next morning, he noticed that the passenger front window was shattered and his iPod was missing. Total loss is $700.
A man living in the 2900 block of 76th Avenue S.E. reported that the Toyota Corolla he was renting was broken into on May 9. The perpetrator broke the driver’s door window open and stole an iPod Nano from the front seat center console.
Arrests
An officer arrested a woman for driving with a suspended license in the 8000 block of S.E. 27th Street on May 14. According to the incident report, the vehicle was stopped for having expired tabs. A computer check on the driver revealed that she had been arrested twice for driving with a suspended license. The woman was arrested and booked into the King County Jail.
An 18-year-old girl was arrested for driving under intoxication in a parking lot at the Lid Park on May 17. According to the report, an officer saw two girls running toward a car at the Lid Park around 2 a.m. on May 17. The officer approached the girls and smelled alcohol. When asked where the keys to the car were, the driver showed that the keys were in the ignition. The driver failed a standard field sobriety test and was arrested. The girl, who was also charged as a minor in consumption, gave breathalyzer readings of .042 and .050.
Police arrested a Mercer Island man with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant on May 15. According to the incident report, the man was caught when an officer ran his license plate in the 3000 block of 67th Avenue S.E. The officer identified the driver as the registered owner of the car. The man was arrested on a $5,100 warrant for negligent driving and was booked into the King County Jail.
Theft
An employee at the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Thrift Store reported that a shopper fraudulently adjusted the price of a painting for less than the selling price and then paid the false price. According to the incident report, the suspect removed the original $125 price tag from a painting called “Flamenco Dancer” and placed a different price tag for $8 on the artwork. The suspect then purchased the painting for the reduced price. Total loss is $117.
A Seattle man working on an Island resident’s house reported that his ladder was stolen sometime between April 25 and May 2. According to the report, the ladder was unsecured under the resident’s carport. Total loss is $700.
Mischief
A 20-year-old Island man reported that his car had been egged while parked in the North-end QFC on April 29. The victim stated that the ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend had committed the vandalism. The vehicle, a Honda S2000, sustained paint damage.
