Fraud
An Island man, posing as a Mercer Island city contractor, attempted to schedule the removal of a tree located at a residence in the 3000 block of 67th Avenue S.E. on March 18. Suspicious of the man’s stated identity, the owner of the residence reported the incident to the city attorney, who requested an investigation. Forged documents from the suspect were placed into evidence.
An Island woman reported that somebody fraudulently traded $8,217 from her E-Trade account on March 17. According to the report, somebody used her password and account information without authorization to make the trades. E-Trade placed the funds back into the victim’s account.
Arrests
Mercer Island police arrested two men for possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license on March 29. An officer pulled their vehicle over for a traffic infraction in the 4000 block of East Mercer Way. The driver was found to be driving with a suspended license. The officer searched the vehicle and found marijuana alongside the passenger seat.
A 29-year-old Island woman was arrested for drunk driving on April 2. According to the incident report, the Mercer Island Fire Department responded to a car accident in the 2600 block of Island Crest Way at approximately midnight on April 2. The driver was treated at the scene. She admitted to drinking and performed a field sobriety test, which she failed. She was taken to the Mercer Island Police Department, where she refused to take a blood alcohol test. Police arrested the woman and booked her into the Issaquah jail.
An Island officer arrested two Kent residents and a Federal Way man after stopping the car they were in for a traffic violation in the 3600 block of 86th Avenue S.E. on March 20. The driver was driving with a suspended license, and the passenger had a warrant for vehicle prowling and second-degree theft. The officer searched the vehicle and located items connected to motor-vehicle prowls. All three people in the car were arrested.
Burglary
The Mercer Island Country Club reported that somebody stole $60 in cash from the club’s till on March 36. According to the police report, a suspect was caught on camera, entering and exiting the building through a locked door in the south entrance to the club. A footprint taken from the scene matches the shoe tread characteristics of a certain Country Club employee. An investigation is being conducted.
A barista at a Town Center espresso stand was robbed of $50 on March 27. According to the incident report, a customer asked the barista for change for a $50 bill. The barista took cash out of the till and the suspect grabbed the money and ran away on foot.
A man living in the 4700 block of 91st Avenue S.E. reported that his front license plate was stolen sometime between March 21 and March 28. The total loss is $93.
A man living in the 2400 block of 53rd Avenue S.E. reported that somebody stole his lawn mower from his carport on March 27. The total loss is about $300.
