Aug. 14 VEHICLE PROWL: At 12:06 p.m. a Mercer Island woman reported her Toyota Prius had been broken into while she took her daughter to the park. The woman left her purse on the passenger floorboard of her locked car for approximately 30 minutes at a parking lot near the 5700 block of Island Crest Way. When she returned, the front passenger window was broken and her brown leather purse and its contents – several pairs of earrings, various credit cards, cell phone, Washington state drivers license, $40 in cash, a checkbook, and red leather wallet – were missing.

Aug. 14

Aug. 15

DUI: At 12:51 a.m. an officer observed the driver of a 2001 Toyota Highlander “strike the jersey barrier” in the 9500 block of eastbound I-90. However, the driver, a white 22-year-old Fall City woman, continued driving. The officer pulled over the car and arrested the woman for driving under the influence. Mercer Island Towing impounded the car and the driver was taken to the Mercer Island Police Department, processed and released.

Aug. 16

FIREWORKS: At 12:08 a.m. an officer contacted two 16-year-old boys with an assortment of fireworks including two bottle rockets, one fountain-type firework and one box of sparklers. The teens turned over the fireworks for destruction.

FORGERY: At 8:56 p.m. a white 49-year-old Auburn man attempted to fill a prescription under the mane “Randy Stewart.” Suspecting the prescription was forged, the pharmacist called 911. The responding officer arrested the Auburn man when he returned to pick up the prescription.

Aug. 17

BURGLARY: At 8:26 p.m. a resident of the 9300 block of S.E. 43rd Street reported that tennis equipment was stolen from his garage sometime during the evening of Aug. 16. The garage was open when the theft occurred.

Aug. 18

DUI: At 12:24 a.m. police stopped the driver of a car with expired tabs in the 8100 block of eastbound I-90. The driver, a white 49-year-old Carnation woman, appeared disoriented, agreed to a field sobriety test and failed with a sample of .181. The woman’s car was towed and the driver was processed at the Mercer Island Police Department, before being released to her sister.

Aug. 19

DUI: At 1:28 a.m. a 33-year-old Seattle woman was stopped in the 8200 block of west bound I-90 for speeding. The driver, who appeared intoxicated, refused both a field sobriety test and breathalyzer test. She was taken into custody and transported to the Mercer Island Police Department, where officers tested her blood alcohol level at .130 and .132. The woman was released to a sober adult.

Aug. 20

RECKLESS BURNING: At 11:51 p.m. residents of the 2700 block of 70th Avenue S.E. reported hearing fireworks at about 11 p.m. Approximately 45 minutes later, they reported that a nearby wooden fence was on fire. The Mercer Island Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. Neither the two witnesses nor the owner of the fence were able to provide information on possible suspects.

Aug. 21

ARREST: At 6:46 p.m. a 32-year-old Bellevue man was stopped for speeding in the 8800 block of N. Mercer Way. The officer ran a records check, found a DUI warrant and arrested the man, who was later booked at the King County Jail.
