Theft

A woman living in the Island Square apartments reported on Aug. 11 that her Bianci Classic 12-speed bicycle was stolen from the complex’s bike lock area. The bike was stolen sometime between July 21 and July 24.

A woman living in the 5600 block of East Mercer Way reported that several items had gone missing from the family’s boat, which was moored at a dock adjacent to their property. According to the police report, a fire extinguisher, several seat cushions and a “skier down” warning flag were stolen. The theft occurred sometime between July 22 and Aug. 13.

Arrests

An Island woman was arrested on Aug. 12 when an officer stopped her at a traffic stop in the 3600 block of 78th Avenue S.E. The women was pulled over after a computer check revealed that she was driving with a suspended license. She was arrested and booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Police arrested a Renton man for speeding and changing lanes without signaling in the I-90 corridor on Aug. 15. The driver, who was headed eastbound, was pulled over in the 8400 block of I-90. He admitted that he had been drinking and agreed to a standard field sobriety test, which he failed. The man was arrested, processed and released to a sober friend.

Mercer Island police arrested an Arlington man for driving with a suspended license on Aug. 15. The man was pulled over while driving in the 9300 block of S.E. 36th Street. He was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Mercer Island police had to chase a 16-year-old Island resident and his friends after the teenager failed to pull over for driving with expired tabs on Aug. 18. According to the police report, the driver pulled to the right and ran from the car along with two passengers. The vehicle rolled into a telephone pole. The officer located all three occupants with the help of Redmond K9. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and stated that the car had been taken without permission. The man signed an affidavit of theft. All three teenage occupants were arrested and released to their parents.

Police stopped a vehicle for erratic driving in the 7800 block of I-90 on Aug. 14. The driver admitted that he had been drinking alcohol. He failed his standard field sobriety test and showed blood alcohol levels of .071 and .074. The subject was released and his case was forwarded to a prosecutor for consideration of charges.

A California woman was arrested on Aug. 18 for obstructing an officer after he was pulled over on his Sea Doo for a harbor violation on Aug. 18. According to the incident report, the woman refused to provide her real name after being asked several times by the officer. She was subsequently arrested and booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Trespassing

A man driving through the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street flagged down police to tell them that he saw a male wearing shorts and no shirt enter a fenced-in construction site. When the reporting party drove past, the man ducked and hid from sight. Officers located a Bellevue resident in the bottom parking level of the building under construction, which was clearly marked with “No Trespassing” signs. Officers arrested the man and booked him into the Issaquah Jail.

Accidents

An Island man drove over a rock barrier in the Mercer Island Care and Rehabilitation Center parking lot and crashed into a vehicle on the opposite side on Aug. 13. According to the incident report, the man said that he was maneuvering into the parking stall when his foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator, propelling the car up over a small rock retaining wall and into the front of a vehicle on the other side. The man was not injured. The fronts of both vehicles were damaged.

A cyclist flipped over her bike in the 8400 block of North Mercer Way on Aug. 16. According to the incident report, a witness was stopped at a sign and about to pull into North Mercer Way. The cyclist, who was heading eastbound, suddenly stopped in front of the car, flipping over the front of her bike and onto the road. The witness said that she did not see the circumstances which caused the cyclist to break. The cyclist could not recall the circumstances either. Police transported her to Overlake Hospital with obvious radial injuries.

A car struck two cyclists while turning from North Mercer Way onto 77th Avenue S.E. on Aug. 11. According to the incident report, the driver was heading westbound on North Mercer Way, turned left onto 77th Avenue S.E. and collided with two cyclists who were waiting in the turning lane to head northbound on North Mercer Way. Neither cyclist was hurt; however, both bikes sustained damage to their front tires and frames. The estimated damage for both bikes totaled $7,000.

Car impounded

An Island resident notified police that a Chevrolet Cavalier was parked too close to a fire hydrant in the 7300 block of 80th Place S.E. on Aug. 15. The car was parked seven feet from the fire hydrant, which requires 15 feet of free space. Starbucks Towing was called to impound the vehicle.

Found property

A man living in the 2400 block of 67th Avenue S.E. reported that he found 12 road flares while cleaning up for an estate sale on Aug. 10. The man turned the flares over to an officer for destruction.

An Islander found a small, blue backpack at the Mercer Island Park and Ride on Aug. 13. The Islander turned the backpack over to Mercer Island police, who are holding it in their property room. The pack contained boys clothing and a plastic water bottle.
