Arrests

A 20-year-old Bellevue man with a warrant was arrested for driving with a suspended license after Island police stopped him for speeding around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the 8600 block of North Mercer Way.

A 21-year-old Seattle man was arrested after getting off a Sound Transit bus at the North Mercer Park and Ride. A fellow rider called police to report that the young man was rolling a marijuana joint while on the bus around 6 p.m. on Nov. 30. According to the police report, the suspect dropped a bag of marijuana on the ground upon contact with the officer and a rolled joint was found underneath his hat above his ear.

Police arrested a 40-year-old Bellevue man while he was in the Park on the Lid after closing hours around 1 a.m., and a computer check revealed that he was wanted in Oregon for a burglary warrant. Police also confiscated a glass marijuana pipe.

Beer run

An employee of Albertsons grocery store chased a young man stealing two cases of Busch beer out of the store around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 28. According to the police report, the beer thief got away. However, the employee was able to record the license plate of the pickup truck used to drive the suspect away. The truck owner, a 27-year-old Island resident, told police that he did not know his passenger had stolen anything as he was giving the suspect a ride to Seattle for $5. He told police that he saw the suspect take two cases of beer from the bed of his truck when he dropped him off.

Heroin use

A 21-year-old Islander had to be hospitalized after a bad reaction to taking some heroin around 4:30 p.m., Dec. 6. According to the police report, the young woman was using it with two friends, 21 and 17, who called the woman’s boyfriend to come get her after she took the drugs. The boyfriend drove her to the fire station, where she was escorted to a Seattle hospital.

Vandalism

The lock on an Islander’s mailbox was punched out sometime between Nov. 28 and Dec. 2 in the 7900 block of East Mercer Way. According to the incident report, it was unknown if mail was stolen.

The locks of several mailboxes were broken the night of Nov. 25 in the 5200 block of Forest Avenue S.E. It was unclear if any mail had been taken, and the cost to fix each lock is estimated to be about $250.

Three locked mailboxes were broken into during the night of Nov. 25 in the 7400 block of West Mercer Way. According to the incident report, the damages are estimated at $500 to fix. It was unknown if any mail was stolen.

A tire of a 24-year-old Islander’s SUV was punctured in the early hours of Nov. 29 while the vehicle was parked in the 3800 block of 81st Avenue S.E. The total cost to replace the tire was estimated to be $227.

The rear driver’s-side window of a Bellevue woman’s car was smashed during the morning of Nov. 26 while parked in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E.

Auto accidents

A collision occurred in the intersection of S.E. 28th Street and 61st Avenue S.E. around 9 a.m. on Dec. 2. According to the incident report, a car driven by a 20-year-old woman from Renton was traveling eastbound on 28th when she failed to yield the right of way to an Islander driving down 61st, and T-boned the other car in the middle of the intersection.

A 22-year-old Islander suffered some bumps on his head after he lost control of his SUV in a roll-over accident around 2 p.m. on Nov. 30 while driving in the 4400 block of West Mercer Way. According to the accident report, he was driving through an ‘S’ curve when the vehicle began to slide on a wet roadway. The driver overcorrected, left the roadway and rolled once down an embankment. The man told police that he was still learning how to drive a manual transmission and was shifting while he was heading into the curve. His 58-year-old female passenger also suffered bumps on her head and was disoriented.

Thefts

A 15-year-old student’s Coach wallet was left in the girls’ locker room at the high school for nearly a week without getting stored in a secure locker and was stolen sometime between the afternoon of Nov. 21 and 26. According to the incident report, at least one charge was made to her debit card before she could cancel it.

A 40-year-old Islander told police he believes he dropped his wallet outside of his car in the parking lot of NW Yeshiva High School around 4 p.m. On Nov. 28. According to the incident report, the man returned to the lot an hour later but could not find it and it was not turned into the office. The wallet contained $125 cash, afew credit cards and his driver’s license.

Written prescriptions for Ritalin that were in a folder behind the reception desks were went missing from the Mercer Island Pediatric Clinic sometime between 8 a.m. Nov. 21 and noon on Nov. 24. According to the incident report, it was unknown if the prescriptions were misplaced or stolen.

A 26-year-old Islanders credit card information was obtained and $1,340 was charged to her card on Dec. 2. According to the incident report, the credit card company was to reimburse the fradulent charges.

An unlocked van that could be started without a key was stolen some time between Nov. 14 and 30 outside of the owner’s home in the 2200 block of 72nd Avenue S.E.

Burglary

Two laptop computers and a wallet containing several credit cards were stolen from a home burglarized the evening of Nov. 27 at a home in the 4000 block of 92nd Avenue S.E. According to the incident report, the burglars broke a window on the side of the house to unlock the door and get inside.

Several coins and other items were stolen from a home ransacked and burglarized in the 8200 block of S.E. 41st Street the evening of Nov. 27. According to the incident report, the burglar entered through a small tilt up window.

Dog bites

A 64-year-old Islander was bitten on the left leg by a leashed dog while in a cross walk around 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 27 in the intersection of Island Crest Way and S.E. 68th Street.

A 12-year-old Islander was bitten by a dog twice on his left arm near his elbow around 8:10 a.m. on Nov. 26 while in the intersection of S.E. 32nd Street and 74th Avenue S.E.

Domestic incident

A 46-year-old Island resident reported to police that her ex-husband violated a no-contact order by sending her an e-mail and text message just before and on Thanksgiving. According to the incident report, the victim was not willing to give more information or write a statement in support of the violation.
