Theft

An Island resident advertising prenatal yoga classes reported that her sandwich board was stolen from the Town Center on Feb. 4. According to the incident report, the sandwich board, which read “Prenatal Yoga — MercerIslandYoga.org,” was set up on the corner of S.E. 27th Street and 78th Avenue S.E. The sign was last seen on the evening of Feb. 2. The missing item cost $50.

A woman reported that her 2k gold and diamond ring was stolen while she was moving from Mercer Island to Issaquah. The victim had hired a moving company to assist her with the move. She believes that one of employees stole the ring. The theft occurred on March 3, 2008.

Car prowls

Two Eastside residents reported that their cars were broken into while parked in the 3800 block of East Mercer Way on Feb. 3. According to the incident report, one vehicle’s passenger side window was smashed. The other vehicle’s driver side window was smashed. The burglar stole a brown purse and wallet.

Two cars in the 6100 block of 92nd Avenue S.E. were prowled on Feb. 4. The cars were left unlocked in the victim’s driveway overnight. According to the incident report, both vehicles were entered and the contents of the glove box were strewn across the interiors of the cars. A radar detector from one car was stolen and a WAMU debit card was stolen from the other car.

An Island woman’s purse was stolen from her Toyota Solara on Feb. 3. The car was parked in the 9100 block of 42nd Street. The burglar smashed one of the car’s side windows to get to the purse. No other items in the car were taken. The damages and theft cost the victim $332.

Two Mercer Island High School students reported that their cars were broken into on Feb. 3. Both cars were parked in the MIHS lot. According to the incident report, one student came out to his car at 9:30 p.m. and noticed that the passenger side window was shattered and his wallet was missing. A number of debit/credit cards and cash were in the wallet. The total financial loss is $559. Another student noticed that her wallet had been riffled through, and two credit cards, one debit card and approximately $300 in cash were taken. The woman cancelled her cards but was informed that two purchases had been made at an ARCO station and a Target store.

Fraud

Management at Ellsworth House reported that $865 in furniture from Sears was fraudulently purchased with Ellsworth House funds sometime between Nov. 11, 2008 and Feb. 4, 2009. The invoice was discovered by the Ellsworth House manager. According to the police report, the manager’s predecessor is suspected of purchasing a vintage day bed, mattress and bed frame on the company’s account. The former Ellsworth House employee was contacted and said that he had returned the items to Sears. Sears had no listing that the items had been returned.

Arrest

An Island officer pulled over a vehicle for expired tabs on Feb. 4 and discovered that the driver had a suspended license and a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was confirmed with the Spokane Police Department, and the driver was arrested. The 26-year-old was booked into the Issaquah jail.

Cyclist hit

A Seattle woman hit a cyclist while driving southbound on East Mercer Way on Feb. 4. According to the incident report, the driver turned left toward a private East Mercer road leading into the Glenhome neighborhood. She admitted that she did not signal her turn and did not see the approaching cyclist. The cyclist said that he was headed northbound on East Mercer Way when the driver turned directly in front of him, causing the collision. The cyclist suffered facial bruising and a cut lip.
