Theft

An employee of Albertsons reported that a Seattle man had attempted to steal Ribeye Roasts from the grocery store on Jan. 19. According to the police report, the suspect was seen putting the meat into a duffel bag. He then left the store without paying. The man was contacted by the employee. Police found the meat in some bushes a few blocks from the store. The man was arrested and taken into custody. The Seattle resident had been suspected of shoplifting from Albertsons several times over the course of two weeks. Staff had reported seeing the same man steal multiple canisters of Tide detergent and other items. The acts were caught on the store’s security camera.

An employee at the South-end Rite Aid reported that the store was burglarized between 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 17 and 3:30 p.m., the following day. An assortment of alcohol was stolen from the storage area. The total loss is $398. No security cameras were in the area. Forced entry was reported.

A man living in the 4400 block of Ferncroft Road reported that his Ford MV was stolen from his residence on Jan. 20. According to the police report, the owner could not remember if he had locked the vehicle. The keys are still in his possession. The victim had a car stolen from his home once before in November of 2009.

An employee at the North-end QFC reported that a suspect was caught shoplifting on Jan. 19. According to the police report, the suspect attempted to leave the store with a shopping cart of groceries. The shift manager approached the suspect in the parking lot. The suspect departed eastbound on S.E. 28th Street.

Stolen plates on a Chevrolet truck were discovered in Tabit Square on Jan. 19. According to the police report, an officer ran the rear plate number and discovered that the plate was stolen from Bothell. An additional check on the front plates revealed that it was stolen from Everett. Investigation showed that the truck’s plates had been stolen and replaced.

A Mercer Island High School student reported that her backpack was stolen from the school commons on Jan. 19. According to the police report, the 15-year-old girl left her backpack unattended for 10 minutes. When she returned, it was missing. There was an iPod, books, day planner, wallet, keys and gift card in the Northface backpack. The total loss is estimated at $810.

Accidents

A woman driving in the 3800 block of West Mercer Way veered off the road, rolled her car and landed on a house roof on Jan. 20. According to the police report, the woman said she went to adjust the stereo and lost concentration on the road. No injuries were reported. The front end of the car was damaged.

An accident occurred on Island Crest Way as one car merged into an adjacent lane while heading southbound in the 6700 block. According to the police report, both drivers were going the speed limit when one merged into the outer lane. There had been approximately 300 feet between the two, but the merging car struck the back bumper of the vehicle ahead. No injuries were reported. The driver of the second car was cited for “driving on roadways laned for traffic.”

A two-car accident occurred at the intersection of 86th Avenue S.E. and Island Crest Way on Jan. 20. According to the police report, a man was waiting at the stop sign on 86th Avenue, preparing to turn left on Island Crest Way. He said he did not see the oncoming vehicle as he pulled out into the road. The driver of the oncoming vehicle, heading southbound on Island Crest Way, said she saw the man inch into traffic, so she moved into the inside lane to keep away. However, as she pulled in front of him, the man merged into the lane and hit her. The man was issued a citation for failure to yield the right-of-way. Both drivers claimed no injuries, but both cars were damaged.

Dog attack

A UPS driver reported that he was bitten by a dog during delivery in the 7000 block of North Mercer Way on Jan. 18. No further details were provided.

Arrests

A man was pulled over for driving with expired tabs in the 2100 block of 76th Avenue S.E. on Jan. 19. According to the police report, a computer check revealed that the driver had a suspended license. He was arrested and released to a friend.

An officer checking license plates in the 3200 block of Island Crest Way came across a report for an outstanding $500 felony warrant for theft on Jan. 18. The officer stopped the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as the name on the warrant. The man was arrested and turned over to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Police came across a car parked in the lot of Homestead Park after hours on Jan. 19. According to the police report, three occupants in the car were contacted. The officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana, so he searched the interior of the car. He discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including glass pipes. The driver of the car and passenger, ages 18 and 17, were arrested for possession of marijuana.

Police pulled over a car in the 7800 block of North Mercer Way on Jan. 17 after a DOL check revealed that the driver had a revoked license. The officer contacted the man and noticed that he smelled of alcohol. The driver admitted to drinking and failed a standard field sobriety test. He was arrested and released to a sober passenger.
