Theft

An 81-year-old woman reported that $11,075 worth of jewelry was stolen from her residence on Dec. 24. According to the police report, the victim suspects that her former roommate, a 76-year-old male, stole the goods, which included three crystal animals, a jewelry box and a diamond/emerald necklace.

An employee at the South-end QFC reported that an unidentified male and female stole approximately $250 worth of groceries on Jan. 18. The two suspects walked out of the store without paying for their goods shortly before 4:30 p.m. and drove away in a gray or white Mazda PU with a canopy.

A 37-year-old reported that his storage unit had been burglarized sometime between November 2008 and Jan. 18. The victim found the door to the unit, located in the 3200 block of Concord Way, ajar. A number of items, including children’s toys, a luxury bed sheet and comforter set, kitchen appliances, jewelry box, printer and a cookware set, had been stolen. Other items may have also been stolen, according to the report.

A 59-year-old Island resident reported that his K-2 skis were stolen from his unlocked car on the night of Jan. 18. The car was parked at the victim’s residence in the 4000 block of 90th Avenue S.E. The man will attempt to find the ski’s serial numbers and give them to police.

An unknown suspect stole six T-Mobile cell phones from an office in the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. on Jan. 17. The total cost of the phones is estimated at $3,000.

Fraud

A 59-year-old man reported that approximately $30,000 was fraudulently “cash advanced” into a checking account from his credit card. The suspect then attempted to withdraw the money using the “Bill Pay” online banking function. According to the police report, the fraud occurred between Jan. 12 and Jan. 16.

Burglary

A man’s law office was broken into in the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. late on Jan. 17. The burglar stole cash and a .45 Smith & Wesson gun from the victim. A Honeywell combination metal lockbox was also taken. Police were able to obtain fingerprints from the scene.

Car prowls

A 56-year-old man reported that his car was prowled on the night of Jan. 17. The vehicle was parked, unlocked, in the owner’s residence in the 2700 block of 76th Avenue S.E. According to the incident report, a CD player/radio was taken.

An Island couple’s two cars were prowled on the night of Jan. 18. Both cars had been left unlocked at the couple’s residence on 88th Avenue S.E. The burglars stole the woman’s purse, with a number of credit cards inside, a radar detector and a cell phone.

Arrest

Island officers contacted a woman named Shady who was requesting civil standby on Jan. 19. A computer check of the Island resident’s name revealed a $1,500 warrant for theft issued on Jan. 8. The 31-year-old woman was arrested and transported to the North-end QFC to meet with a Seattle Police Department unit. She was then transported by a Mercer Island officer to the King County Jail, where she was booked.
