Car prowls

A 21-year-old Island resident’s vehicle was prowled while parked, unlocked, in the 7600 block of West Mercer Way on Jan. 2. The thief stole a Sony Play station, cash and a debit card.

An officer on patrol found a black leather briefcase on the side of East Mercer Way, in the 4300 block, on Dec. 26. The officer found a vehicle with the front passenger window broken out a block further. A red pipe wrench was located in the driver’s seat. The victim was contacted and stated that a dictaphone was stolen from the briefcase, along with more than $2 in change.

Mischief

A lamp post in the Mormon church parking lot was knocked over and destroyed sometime between 1 and 4 p.m. on Dec. 30. The estimated damage is $3,000.

An unknown suspect stole a mailbox with its attached post from a house in the 4000 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. on the night of Dec. 31.

A West Mercer Elementary School employee found graffiti sprayed on the east wall of the school on Dec. 29.

Arrests

An 18-year-old Island resident was arrested for DUI on Jan. 2, after being pulled over on 84th Avenue S.E. for a traffic infraction. The teenager failed his standard field sobriety test. Police gave the driver a breathalyzer and then released him to his parents.

An Island resident was arrested for DUI on Dec. 30 after being pulled over for erratic driving along the 1800 block of West Mercer Way. According to the incident report, the driver was weaving across the center line and nearly struck a patrol car. The driver refused a sobriety and breathalyzer test. Police found that he had been driving with a suspended license. He was arrested and booked into King County Jail. A search of the vehicle revealed less than 40 grams of marijuana. The vehicle was impounded.

A Seattle man was arrested for driving with a suspended license and possession of dangerous weapons. Police stopped the 32-year-old in the 2200 block of 76th Avenue S.E. for a traffic infraction on the morning of Dec. 31. A background check revealed that the man was driving with a suspended license. The officer found brass knuckles after searching the vehicle. The man was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

A 2002 Ford Windstar was pulled over in the 4200 block of East Mercer Way on Jan. 2 after a computer check of the vehicle’s plates showed that the registered owner did not have a license. The driver, who was not the registered owner, produced a Washington I.D. card. The Seattle resident was arrested on an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license and booked into King County Jail.

Accidents

A vehicle was struck while parked on S.E. 27th Street in the Town Center on Dec. 26. The owner of the vehicle said that he parked his car on Dec. 18 and left it due to snow conditions. He checked the vehicle on Dec. 22, and it was not damaged. He checked the vehicle again on Dec. 23 at 4 p.m. and found a dent in the front fender and passenger door.

A man was struck by a car while walking through the Walgreens parking lot around 4 p.m. on Dec. 30. According to the incident report, the victim was walking toward the entryway of Walgreens when a vehicle backed up and struck him, knocking him down. He was not injured. The driver of the vehicle provided limited information to the victim and then left the scene. The driver was later contacted by police.

A woman reported hitting a vehicle parked on the shoulder of 72nd Avenue S.E. on Dec. 26. According to the report, the driver said that she was reaching down to adjust the radio when she drifted off the main road, hit some snow and slush, and veered into the parked vehicle.

Fraud

A 33-year-old woman reported suspicious activity suggesting fraud on Dec. 31. The woman said that she put down a $3,600 deposit for a vacation rental in Hawaii on Dec. 6. When she attempted to contact the agent, the woman said that the phone was disconnected and the Web site link had been removed. The rental is planned between Jan. 9 and 17.

A 29-year-old woman reported credit card fraud on Dec. 29. According to the report, approximately $260 was charged to the woman’s Bank of America card between Dec. 12 and 15.
