A woman living in the 6500 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. reported that somebody had set her Allied Waste plastic trash can on fire on May 22. According to the report, the woman found her trash can melted in her driveway on the morning of May 23. The approximate replacement cost is $250.

Mischief

A woman reported that her Toyota Camry was keyed sometime between May 18 and May 19. The car was parked in the 3050 block of 81st Place S.E. According to the incident report, the woman found a 12-inch long scratch on the driver’s side back door and another 12-inch scratch on the passenger’s side front door. The estimated repair cost is $1,000.

A MIPD officer discovered graffiti inside a portable toilet in the parking lot at the Lid Park on May 22. The graffiti was written with a permanent pen and was racially insensitive. The approximate clean-up costs are $50.

A man living in the 8100 block of S.E. 71st Street reported that somebody threw a 7-foot wooden board through his kitchen window on May 26. No suspects were known.

A man living in the 3000 block of 68th Avenue S.E. reported that his house was egged late at night on May 24. According to the incident report, a second-story window was broken due to the egging. The total replacement cost for the window is $400.

An unknown person set the wooden roof above a man’s mailbox on fire on May 24. According to the incident report, the man put out the fire with his car fire extinguisher. The shingled roof of the mailbox, located in the 4700 block of 90th Avenue S.E., was still smoldering when Mercer Island firefighters arrived at the scene. A mailbox further down the road was also found to have been smashed in. A vehicle was last seen leaving the neighborhood around the same time that the man dialed 911.

Arrests

An Island man was arrested for drunk driving on May 26. A police officer stopped the man in the 7200 block of westbound I-90 for equipment violations. The officer smelled alcohol on the man’s breath, and he admitted that he had been drinking. He failed a standard field sobriety test and was arrested for driving under the influence. The driver refused to provide breath samples after being processed. He was released to his wife.

Burglary

A woman living in the 9200 block of S.E. 43rd Street reported that her house was burglarized while she was out of town over Memorial Day weekend. According to the report, the thief forced entry through the woman’s bedroom window. Her jewelry and passport were stolen. No prints were obtained.

A man living in the 3000 block of West Mercer Way reported that his car had been prowled on May 25. According to the incident report, the vehicle had been left in the man’s driveway unlocked with the ignition key in the car. The thief took the car keys, along with keys to the victim’s business office, a computer back-up hard drive and $5 in cash.

A man living in the 5900 block of 90th Avenue S.E. reported that somebody ransacked the interior of his vehicle on May 22. The car was parked, unlocked, in the man’s driveway. He reported approximately $600 worth of property stolen.

A man reported that his wallet was stolen while attending a pick-up game of football at the Mercer Island High School stadium on May 22. The theft occurred between 9 and 9:45 p.m. The wallet contained ID and $50 in cash.

Overdose

A housekeeper working for a family in the 4800 block of Forest Avenue S.E. found one of her employers passed out, unconscious, in the bathroom on May 22. The housekeeper called 911 and reported that the man had overdosed on prescription medicine. Medics reported that the subject had ingested at least two prescription narcotics and was believed to also have heroin in his system. The victim was treated at Overlake Hospital.

Dog attack

A man jogging near Homestead Field on S.E. 40th Street reported that a resident’s dog jumped up and bit him on May 26. According to the incident report, the man passed a couple with two dogs, one of which leaped up and bit him on the upper thigh. The bite broke the skin.
