Car thefts and prowls
An Islander’s Honda Accord was stolen from his residence in the 3000 block of 65th Place East during the night of Nov. 15. According to the police report, the owner found the ignition lying on the driveway instead of his parked car around 10 a.m. on Nov. 16.
In a related incident, a stolen Chevy Monte Carlo from Seattle was found parked alongside the road around 9 a.m., Nov. 16, in the 6000 block of S.E. 32nd Street. The stolen car was returned to its 16-year-old owner after some fingerprints were obtained from the steering column.
Several car stereo components were stolen from a vehicle that had its rear window smashed in a car prowl during the night of Nov. 15 in the 2700 block of 33rd Avenue S.E. Two speakers and an amplifier were taken, worth a total value of $1,350, including the window replacement.
A purse and two pieces of clothing were taken from a car after a window was smashed while parked in the 7400 block of 92nd Place S.E. during the evening of Nov. 14. According to the incident report, the car was parked in a driveway and the thieves broke the passenger side window to get inside.
Another Honda car was stolen during the night of Nov. 14 while parked in the 6800 block of 83rd Avenue S.E. According to the report, the 38-year-old owner said it was locked and in his driveway when he saw it last.
About $20 was stolen from an unlocked car’s cup holder in a car prowl that took place between noon on Nov. 8 and 11:30 a.m., Nov. 11, in the 7200 block of West Mercer Way.
Auto accidents
Two cars scraped together while a 75-year-old Islander took a tight left turn from S.E. 40th onto Gallagher Hill around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 15. The damages were minor, the accident report states, and no one was injured.
Two Islanders were in a collision in an extension of 76th Avenue S.E. around 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 15. According to the accident report, an 82-year-old driver failed to yield when she took a left turn in front of an oncoming car. No injuries were listed on the report.
A 55-year-old Islander veered off the road and crashed into a speed limit sign around 7:40 p.m. on Nov. 12 in the 7600 block of West Mercer Way.
Arrests
A 22-year-old Islander was arrested on drug charges after police found six ecstasy tablets in the center counsel of his car around 9 a.m. on Nov. 14. According to the incident report, the young man was driving with a suspended license and was stopped for an equipment violation in the 7700 block of S.E. 32nd Street.
A 40-year-old Seattle man was arrested for an outstanding warrant while in Luther Burbank Park around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 15. According to the police report, an Island resident called police to report a suspicious person seen in her nearby carport. Police contacted the man in the park, confirmed the warrant and found that he had an illegal knife, burglar tools and suspected stolen property.
DUIs
A 28-year-old Renton man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after he was stopped for speeding and running a stop sign around 3:40 a.m. on Nov. 15 in the 7600 block of North Mercer Way.
About two hours earlier in the same location, police also arrested a 19-year-old from Bellevue for driving under the influence of alcohol after he was stopped for speeding. According to the report, the young man failed a breath test at the scene around 1:40 a.m. on Nov. 15 in the 7600 block of North Mercer Way. He was later released to his father.
Mail theft
An Island resident found a stranger’s mail in his newspaper recycling bin on the morning of Nov. 15 and called the mail’s owner to return it. According to the incident report, the victim later checked her mailbox and found that the lock had been broken. Other neighbors sharing the locked box may have also been victims.
Burglary
Several pieces of jewelry, including a couple of watches, a ring and bracelet, were stolen from a home that was broken into between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the 3200 block of 74th Avenue S.E.
Vandalism
The field turf at the South Mercer Playfield near Islander Middle School was damaged by unknown suspects driving “doughnuts” on top of it during the night of Nov. 13.
Graffitti was spraypainted onto an Islander’s wooden fence located in the 4200 block of 89th Avenue S.E. sometime between Nov. 1 and 12.
