Arrests

Mercer Island police arrested a Seattle woman for driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana on Oct. 13. The woman was pulled over in the 9600 block of I-90. An officer found burned residue in a pipe that tested positive for marijuana. The 24-year-old was arrested, processed and released.

A Mercer Island woman was arrested for driving with a suspended license on Oct. 13. She was pulled over in the 4600 block of East Mercer Way. An officer identified the woman as the registered owner of the vehicle, with eight failures to appear for charges. She was arrested, processed and released. Her vehicle was impounded.

A Kent man was arrested in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street for driving without a license on Oct. 19. He was pulled over by the MIPD for a traffic stop infringement. When an officer spoke to the man, he discovered that he had been driving without a license. The subject’s identity was later verified.

A man was arrested for driving without a license with 10 failures to appear for citations on his record on Oct. 26. The man was pulled over in the 3800 block of East Mercer Way for having an obstructed license plate. He was cited and booked into the Issaquah Jail.

A Mercer Island man was arrested for possession of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia on Oct. 26. The man, 58, was pulled over in the 2000 block of 77th Avenue S.E. when a computer check revealed that he was driving with a suspended license. According to the police report, the driver exited the vehicle and began walking toward Albertsons. Police approached the man and smelled a strong odor of marijuana. Both the vehicle and the driver were searched. Police found a digital camera case inside one of the man’s pockets. Inside the case was a pipe and green vegetable matter that later tested positive as marijuana. The man was cited and released.

Burglary

An employee at Expressions Hair and Body Salon on S.E. 27th Street reported that cash was taken from the till on Oct. 24. The thief entered the salon through forced entry, breaking the door’s dead bolt. The police report did not say how much cash was stolen or whether there were any suspects.

A man living in the 8200 block of S.E. 36th Street reported that his house was burglarized on Oct. 23. According to the police report, the thief entered the house by breaking a glass window in a back door. The thief stole a 40-inch Toshiba Flatscreen TV, along with video and DVD equipment. Latent fingerprints were taken from the scene and are awaiting lab verification.

A woman living in the 7900 block of S.E. 28th Street reported that her house was entered sometime between Oct. 24 and Oct. 26. Computer equipment and money from a cash box were stolen. According to the police report, a DELL Vostro 1520, worth $800, was taken along with $100 in cash.

Theft

A Carnation man reported that his table saw was stolen from outside the Mercer Island Thrift Shop, where he had left it on Oct. 15. According to the police report, the saw had been left, unsecured, along the side of the building. When the man, who had been using the saw for work, returned to the site the following day, he noticed that the machine was gone.

Car accident

A two-car collision occurred near S.E. 39th Street on Island Crest Way on Oct. 22. According to the police report, a woman was pulling out from S.E. 39th Street to make a left turn when she thought the road was clear. The second driver, heading northbound on Island Crest Way, said he suddenly saw the woman turn into his lane. The man tried to swerve, but still crashed into the front driver’s side of the woman’s car. Statements from both parties matched. Neither person was hurt in the accident, although both cars were damaged.

Vandalism

A man living in the 9900 block of S.E. 35th Place reported that his mailbox lock was damaged on Oct. 27. According to the police report, the man noticed that the door to his mailbox was sitting ajar. Upon closer inspection, he saw that the lock was badly smashed. The man’s mail had not yet been delivered.

An Island business woman reported that the exterior front door lock of her barber shop, located in the 2800 block of 78th Ave. S.E., was damaged and scarred by “a type of gripping tool, possibly pliers.” It was deduced that the potential thief could not completely break the lock, and so no entry to the business was made.

A woman living in the 9600 block of S.E. 36th Street turned in her husband’s weapon collection on Oct. 28. According to the police report, a King County judge had issued a Petition for Surrender of Weapons to the woman’s husband, so she decided to turn in the guns while her husband was away from the house. The number of types of weapons was not clarified.

Lost property

A man living in the 8000 block of S.E. 72nd Street reported that he found a 24-speed Trek Alpha bicycle on the side of the road on Oct. 26. The bike is silver in color.

A woman reported that she found a money clip with $10 inside on a street in the 8600 block of S.E. 61st Street. The money and clip are being held at the Mercer Island Police Station.

An Island man reported that he lost his briefcase after he left it propped on his car’s back bumper and drove away. The incident occurred in the 2400 block of 61st Avenue S.E. According to the police report, the driver returned to the scene after driving all the way to Issaquah; however, the briefcase could not be found. The case, which is made from brown leather and has a Velcro strap, had $40 in cash inside.
