Oct. 1
Accident: A collision occurred at 10:08 p.m. in the intersection of Island Crest Way and S.E. 40th Street when a vehicle driven by an 83-year-old Renton man turned left, on a green arrow, onto northbound ICW. His vehicle was struck by another vehicle driven by a 16-year-old Mercer Island girl turning right onto northbound ICW. No injuries were reported.
Oct. 3
Arrest: A 54-year-old Mill Creek woman sleeping in a parked vehicle was contacted at 1:49 a.m., in the 2200 block of W. Mercer Way, for having a misdemeanor warrant ($3,500 for displaying a weapon). She was transferred to the Washington State Patrol.
Cash: A man drove to the Mercer Island Police Department at 2:45 p.m., Oct. 3, to drop off a blue Wells Fargo change purse containing $494.87 in currency, without ID. The man, who had found it on Mercer Island, drove off without disclosing any further information.
Oct. 4
Malicious mischief: At 9:41 a.m., a 56-year-old Bellevue man reported that a Coke machine’s currency bill receptacle in the 8400 block of S.E. 68th Street had been damaged sometime on Sept. 29 or Sept. 30. The damages totaled $500.
Forklift accident: A 16-year-old Mercer Island girl reported at 2:37 p.m. that an extended forklift tractor had rolled over at a roof construction project in the 8100 block of W. Mercer Way. The forklift operator was injured and was taken to Overlake Hospital by Medic One. Four witnesses were recorded.
Accident: At 4:48 p.m., in the intersection of 77th Place S.E. and S.E. 37th Street, a 29-year-old Seattle woman in a Mercury Sable SW driving southbound struck a Toyota Corolla driven by a 68-year-old man from California. The woman said she “looked up and noticed there was a car already about one-third of the way into the intersection [traveling westbound].” Though she swerved to the right, she struck the vehicle. The other driver did not see her car until the collision. Accounts matched the evidence seen by the officer at the scene. Paint transferred from the second vehicle, which had damage to the passenger side quarter panel and wheel. The front driver’s side corner and hood of the defendant’s car were also damaged. The man’s vehicle was towed.
Found: A 58-year-old Mercer Island woman reported in the morning that she had found a wheelchair at the Recycling Center in the 3200 block of 77th Avenue S.E. It was taken to the police station and stored in the “sally port.”
Oct. 5
Arrest: A 21-year-old Mercer Island man was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant around 1 a.m. in the 4800 block of W. Mercer Way. He was contacted while walking along the road. The police dispatch was advised of warrants, which were confirmed. The man was taken to the Issaquah Jail.
Malicious mischief: An unknown suspect scratched an “obscene image” onto the hood of a 17-year-old Mercer Island High School student’s vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz, while it was parked at MIHS between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The driver-side door area was also scratched and keyed.
Oct. 6
Theft: A 36-year-old Seattle man and one other suspect stole two surveillance cameras (indoor and outdoor) from the North end Rite Aid, leaving without paying, shortly before 1 p.m. The suspects were seen making a getaway in a vehicle with a third suspect driving. The vehicle was located, “but would not yield to the officer.”
Oct. 7
Arrest: A 39-year-old Bellevue man was arrested by the King County Sheriff’s Office on a MIPD warrant. He was taken to the Issaquah Jail.
Car prowl: A 59-year-old Mercer Island man reported at 7:55 a.m. that his vehicles, a Honda minivan and Toyota Camry, had been prowled in his driveway in the 9000 block of S.E. 51st Place between 1 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. A down jacket and an i-Pod were stolen from the vehicles, which had some damage.
Arrest: A 51-year-old Snoqualmie man was arrested at 5:33 p.m. in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. on an Issaquah Police Department warrant ($1,100 for obstructing). He was taken into custody by the Issaquah Police Department.
Oct. 8
Car prowl: A 67-year-old Mercer Island man reported at 8:23 a.m. that his motor vehicle had been prowled while parked, unlocked, in his driveway in the 5900 block of 92nd Avenue S.E. The unknown suspect stole a gun from the vehicle, along with firearm parts.
