Auto accidents

Two Islanders were in a T-bone collision that occurred in the intersection of 72nd Avenue S.E. and 24th Street at 11:10 a.m. on Oct. 11. According to the police report, a 39-year-old ran the stop sign on 72nd Avenue and struck the rear fender of a car traveling westbound on 24th. The driver of the hit car complained of neck and jaw pain, the police report states.

A 43-year-old man from Arlington, Wash., was hospitalized after suffering head and back injuries when a tractor that he was backing off of a trailer fell on its side into the road in the 5600 block of East Mercer Way around 10 a.m. on Oct. 4.

Unlicensed driver

A 13-year-old girl from Seattle was caught driving her foster mother’s car on the Island in the early hours of Oct. 11. According to the police report, the suspect was pulled over for a traffic infraction around 2:50 a.m. in the 9700 block of Mercerwood Drive and was charged with taking a motor vehicle without permission.

BB gun found

A BB gun was found wedged between a stack of tires at the Shell gas station in the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street around 10 p.m. on Oct. 10.

Minors in possession

Police caught two Island youth, both 16, drunk at Calkins Landing around 1:15 a.m. on Oct. 9. According to the police report, the teens were contacted for being in the park while it was closed, and the officers determined that they had been drinking. The teens were released to their parents at the park, the report states.

Arrests

A 38-year-old Bellevue man was arrested for possessing marijuana after police pulled him over in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue S.E. around 7 p.m. on Oct. 6. According to the incident report, the man was stopped for having expired tabs, and the officer smelled marijuana smoke. The officer searched the car, and found a small amount of the drug on the driver’s seat, the report states.

Thefts

Two gold chains and a gold watch were stolen from an 85-year-old Islander’s home in the 7300 block of S.E. 71st Street sometime between June 15 and June 30.

An expensive bottle of wine and Ziploc sandwich bags were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 4200 block of Shoreclub Drive on Oct. 4.

According to the police report, the victim left the garage open so that his ex-wife could come pick up her belongings stored there. But he noticed the missing bottle on the morning of Oct. 5, and his wife’s stuff was still there. The total value is estimated to be $158.

Shoplifter

A 43-year-old Islander was caught stealing personal pizzas, chicken, a fruit platter and bean dip from the North-end QFC during the afternoon of Oct. 12. According to the incident report, police arrested the suspect at her home in the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street a couple of hours after employees caught and banned her from the grocery store. The value of the groceries was $61.
