Arrests
A 68-year-old Seattle man was arrested on a felony theft warrant inside Tent City around 5 p.m. on Oct. 18. He was booked into the county jail.
A 37-year-old Seattle man was arrested on drug charges for possessing crack cocaine and two pipes — one that he dropped and another in his jacket — after police stopped him in the 9700 block of S.E. 35th Place around 2 p.m. on Oct. 15 for driving with false tabs. According to the police report, a records check with the state licensing department showed that the suspect’s tabs had expired a year ago, but current tabs were on the car. During the traffic stop, the officer determined that the man was high after he dropped a pipe when ordered to exit the car to perform a field sobriety test. A small amount of crack was then found on the ground. A search of the car yielded stolen mail and more drug paraphernalia.
Off-duty officers called fellow officers regarding two intoxicated teenagers who they saw in attendance at the homecoming football game at Islander Stadium around 8 p.m. on Oct. 17. According to the incident report, the teens, both 17 and from Mercer Island, were arrested and released to their parents.
Auto accidents
A delivery truck with a trailer backed into a Mercer Island police patrol car in the North-end QFC parking lot near the loading zone just after 6 p.m. on Oct. 16. According to the accident report, the officer was following the truck as it looked to be exiting the lot onto 78th Avenue S.E., when the truck suddenly began to back up. The officer attempted to sound his horn to alert the truck driver of his presence, but the horn didn’t work, the officer’s report states. The push bars on the front end of the patrol car were damaged and the truck driver was cited for unsafe backing.
A head-on collision involving a 16-year-old Islander occurred in the intersection of S.E. 40th Street and 86th Avenue S.E. around 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 16. According to the accident report, the teen had stopped and was taking a left turn, but the other driver did not see the temporary stop sign in place for the road construction in that area. The driver accidentally ran the stop sign and struck the teen as she was turning.
Unreported, recovered car
A 58-year-old Seattle man who reported that his pickup truck was stolen about a month ago did not alert police when he found it the next day and was stopped by Island police traveling westbound on I-90 around 4 p.m. on Oct. 16. According to the police report, a records check with the state licensing department showed that the truck was reported stolen, so the man was stopped and detained. Police later identified the man as the registered owner, confirmed his story and released him — insisting that he notify Seattle police of the recovered truck.
Thefts
A 30-year-old man assisting a disabled Islander with permission to use the 63-year-old woman’s debit card abused his privilege and made personal transactions at the victim’s expense between August and last week. According to the incident report, the victim noticed her account getting too low, too early each month and numerous transactions on her bank statement that she did not know about.
An unknown suspect attempted to steal a 69-year-old Islander’s car from a parking lot in the 7600 block of S.E. 29th Street between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 15. The steering column had been broken.
A steering column and front passenger door were damaged in another similar but separate incident that took place in the 9700 block of S.E. 41st Street during the night of Oct. 14. The estimated damage is $700.
Car prowls
A wallet containing $30, a driver’s license and debit card belonging to a 29-year-old Everett man working on the Island was stolen from a construction vehicle parked at Luther Burbank Park during the night of Oct. 15. According to the incident report, the man arrived home, noticed that his wallet was missing and found out the next morning that his debit card had been used at two different locations.
Burglary
Two laptop computers, a pair of rings, a watch and a necklace were stolen from a home during the morning of Oct. 13 in the 7200 block of S.E. 29th Street.
The lock on the main entrance door of NW Yeshiva High School was damaged in an attempted burglary that took place sometime between Oct. 10 and 16. According to the incident report, the door was pried but the lock was not broken, and the would-be burglars did not get inside.
Threats
A 51-year-old Islander told police that she was threatened by her ex-fiancee’s new girlfriend during the evening of Oct. 11. According to the police report, the suspect told the Islander that she would break her legs if she ever stepped a foot inside her place of employment again.
Missing
person found
Island police located an 85-year-old man reported missing from his Burien home around 3 a.m. on Oct. 19. According to the police report, police pulled the man over while driving his vehicle in the 6800 block of East Mercer Way and discovered his missing status. Police parked his car in a safe location and gave him a courtesy ride back home.
