Narcotics

City workers reported that they found a transient sleeping in the bushes on the south side of I-90 near 80th Avenue S.E. on Sept. 3. An officer located the suspect and noticed a syringe sticking out of his pocket. The syringe was dirty and appeared to have been used. When asked about the syringe, the subject admitted that he had been using it for heroin. He said he had a heroin kit in his backpack. Upon inspection, the officer found a substance that turned out to be heroin and another substance that was marijuana. The suspect was arrested and booked into the King County Jail.

Mischief

An unknown suspect scratched the window of Plus One Cleaners sometime between Aug. 25 and Sept. 1. According to the incident report, the scratches are of “unrecognizable letters.” The estimated damage is $500.

A man living in the 6500 block of West Mercer Way reported that an unknown subject shot a gumball through his passenger side window while he was driving on Sept. 6. The approximate damage to the window is $500.

Fraud

A Mercer Island man reported that somebody fraudulently tried to cash a check of his for $3,764 on Sept. 2. According to the incident report, the suspect tried to cash the check at a Wells Fargo Bank in Puyallup. The bank teller assumed fraudulent activity and did not cash the check. The check was supposedly for the MI Rotary Club.

Burglary

A woman living in the 8200 block of S.E. 82nd Street reported that somebody stole two of her Swarovski crystal pieces from a cabinet in her house on Sept. 7. According to the incident report, the theft occurred sometime between July 14 and Aug. 18. The thief stole one clear-bodied, blue-finned Siamese fighting fish crystal, worth approximately $200, and a gold-plated baby pram stroller, worth approximately $200. The woman suspects that subcontractors stole the jewelry as they were at her house when the theft occurred.

Public fight

Police were called to the scene after two teenagers broke into a brawl at the Mercer Island Skate Park on Sept. 3. According to the incident report, two male teenagers began wrestling with each other around 5 p.m. at the skate park. One teen was thrown to the ground, breaking his arm and the ball joint of his shoulder. The subject had to undergo surgery. The other male had no reported injuries.

Arrest

Police stopped a vehicle in the 3000 block of 77th Avenue S.E. on Sept. 7 for having an expired “report of sale” date. The driver, a Tacoma resident, admitted that his license was suspended. He was arrested, issued citations and released.

Car prowls

A string of car prowls occurred during the night of Sept. 5 in several North-end neighborhoods. It has not been proven that the prowls were related. One incident occurred in the 4100 block of West Mercer Way. According to the police report, two unlocked vehicles were entered and rifled through. One was parked in an open garage. No items were taken from the cars and neither car was damaged.

A woman living in the 8000 block of S.E. 37th Place reported that three of her cars were broken into overnight on Sept. 5. The thief stole a Garmin GPS unit and a Shell prepaid gas card. All of the cars had been left unlocked.

A man living in the 4100 block of 80th Avenue S.E. reported that his wife’s car had been rummaged through on the night of Sept. 5. According to the police report, the man woke up around 4 a.m., went outside and noticed that the dome light of his wife’s car was on. When he turned off the light, he noticed that the car had been rifled through. The same had occurred in his own car. Both vehicles had been left unlocked. Nothing was stolen.

Another woman living on 80th Avenue S.E., in the 3700 block, reported that her car had been unlawfully entered overnight. No items were stolen, but the car had clearly been rummaged through.

A car prowl occurred in the 7600 block of S.E. 40th Street on the night of Sept. 5. Two unlocked vehicles were entered overnight and approximately $1 in change was stolen.

In the 3400 block of 79th Avenue S.E., a man reported that his Ford truck and Mercedes-Benz were also prowled on Sept. 5. Nothing was taken, but items had been pulled from the Mercedes’ glovebox and strewn about the front seats.
