Aug. 27

UNDERAGE DRINKING: At 10:21 p.m. during a routine patrol check at Groveland Park, an officer observed a 16-year-old Mercer Island teen drinking from a bottle of vodka. The teen was released to her mother at the park, located in the 7700 block of S.E. 58th Street.

Aug. 28

DRUGS: At 6:10 a.m. a 44-year-old Mercer Island man was arrested in the 3200 block of Island Crest Way after he drove a 1992 Infiniti into the street curb, which flattened the car tires. The man, whose speech was slurred, said he’d intentionally overdosed on muscle relaxants and felt dizzy. The officer found two empty prescription bottles with the suspect’s name, one for 50 mg of Metoprolol Tartrate, and the other for 100 mg of Venlafaxine. He was transported to Overlake Hospital for a blood draw.

DRUGS: At 1: 48 a.m. a patrol officer stopped a 2003 Cadillac Escalade in the 7600 block of N. Mercer Way because the car’s license plate light and passenger side brake light were out. The officer smelled marijuana; however, the 22-year-old Island driver declined a “consent search” of the vehicle. A Kirkland K95 unit was called to the scene and detected “the presence of narcotics.” The car, registered to a 50-year-old Mercer Island man, was impounded and towed pending a search warrant.

Aug. 29

AID CALL: At 9:15 p.m. several calls came in about a man who was “walking down the street, having slit his wrists with a razor knife.” The 44-year-old Mercer Island man, who was bleeding from his wrists and forearms, was contacted in the 3000 block of 78th Avenue S.E., checked by the Mercer Island aid crew and involuntarily committed to Harborview.

Aug. 31

THEFT: At 2:46 p.m. a Mercer Island woman reported her ring and bracelet missing. On the evening of Aug. 28, she hosted a “Friendship” party at her house. She took off the jewelry and placed the pieces on the counter to prepare food during the event. After the party, the jewelry was no longer where she had put it on the counter. The diamond/platinum ring and diamond/white gold bracelet have an estimated value of $29,000.

Sept. 1

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: At 9:27 a.m. an Auto Spa employee reported that someone had attempted to steal cash from the business’ car wash machine. Two locks were drilled, but no money was missing. The Auto Spa is located in the 2700 block of 80th Avenue S.E.

THEFT: At 10:58 a.m. a 43-year-old Mercer Island woman reported that her child’s red and silver bike had been stolen from her home in the 3800 block of E. Mercer Way.

VIOLATION: At 12:46 p.m. a 38-year-old Mercer Island woman living in the 6400 block of E. Mercer Way reported that a 39-year-old Seattle man was violating a restraining order that she had placed against him. An officer responded to the call, contacted the man, confirmed the violation and placed the suspect under arrest. The man was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

THEFT: At 10:23 p.m. police received a report from a 15-year-old Mercer Island teen that her house key and pink leather wallet, which contained $50 in cash and gift cards — totaling $100 — to Target, American Eagle, Abercrombie and Fitch and Barnes and Noble, were stolen out of her backpack. The backpack was left unattended in the gym at Mercer Island High school from 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Sept. 2

DRUGS: At 5:30 p.m. an officer received a tip that “someone may have put narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia in a garbage can located near the main entrance to City Hall.” Upon checking the trash can, the officer found a plastic bottle containing .89 grams of a substance suspected to be fentanyl in a small plastic baggie, two glass pipes, five pieces of tin foil, three baggies and a lighter. The items were placed into evidence for destruction.

Sept. 3

DRUGS: At 12:34 a.m. a patrol officer stopped a 2002 Dodge Intrepid, driven by a 30-year-old Renton man, in the 7800 block of N. Mercer Way for “driving in the opposite lane of travel.” A 21-year-old Seattle man was also in the car. The officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked the driver for a consent to search. The driver declined the officer’s request. Kirkland K95 arrived with “Max” a drug sniffing dog, who “alerted” on all four doors of the car. The vehicle was impounded by Mercer Island Towing, pending a search warrant. Police recovered a bag with some stems of green vegetable matter on the driver’s side floorboard and a silver box containing green vegetable matter, which tested positive as marijuana, inside the trunk of the vehicle.
