Mercer Island ranked among state’s safest, most successful cities

The career expert website analyzed every city in Washington in terms of poverty level, median household income and unemployment rate to rank the most successful cities.

Zippia determined Mercer Island’s population is 23,636, it’s median income is $125,651, poverty level 3.5 percent and unemployment rate 4.5 percent.

The most successful city on the list was Sammamish, with a population of 49,077, a median income of $144,775, poverty level 2.2 percent and unemployment rate of 4.4 percent.

Mercer Island is also the second-safest mid-sized city in Washington, according to a study ValuePenguin recently published.

The city’s ranking is based on a variety of crime metrics the website sourced from the FBI across 117 Washington cities.

Each city’s score takes into account violent and property crime and adjusts it for population size.

The No. 1 safest mid-sized city was Bainbridge Island, according to the study.
