The Mercer Island School District was recently notified that the district has earned a Washington State Green Leader District award, part of the U.S. Department of Education’s Green Ribbon schools program.
The program celebrates districts and individual schools which work to reduce their environmental impact, improve health and wellness in students and staff and which provide effective environmental and sustainability education.
“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with the King County Green Schools Program and staff who have assisted us in our efforts to move forward in sustainability education. This award is thanks to them, our Green Team leaders, volunteers, students and staff who have been working so hard to lead the way in preserving the environment for future generations,” said Dr. Gary Plano, the MISD superintendent.
The Tahoma and Kent school districts were also nominated. An award ceremony will take place later this spring.
